A visible call

On the market square in Tübingen, directly above the entrance to the shop "Treffpunkt Jesus Live," a poignant appeal—clearly visible to all—has been on display since Wednesday, August 6, urging people not to forget the Israeli hostages held in the tunnels of Gaza.

Alongside the large red letters reading "Never Forget the Hostages" is an image of 24-year-old Israeli Evyatar David, who appears emaciated. Hamas forced him to dig his own grave for a recently released propaganda video. A second large poster bearing the same message hangs on the facade of the TOS Community and Conference Center on Eisenbahnstraße in Tübingen.

Evyatar is the best friend of Guy Gilboa Dalal, whose father and brother spoke at the "March of Life" event in Tübingen this past May. They are fighting tirelessly for these young men and the approximately 50 other hostages still held captive by Hamas. Evyatar—gaunt, yet in noticeably better physical condition—and Guy appeared together in an earlier Hamas video from February, in which they were shown watching from a bus as other hostages were released.

Given the extensive—and at times misleading—reporting on the suffering and hunger experienced by Palestinians in Gaza, the plight of the hostages is easily pushed into the background. Yet, their release would mark the beginning of the end of the war. The TOS Community in Tübingen and the "March of Life" movement urge all citizens, media professionals, and politicians not to forget the hostages and to demand their release.
